O Lord You have searched my heart and You know me more than I know myself.
You know when I sit and when I rise
You understand my every thought
You know the path that I walk
And You see every step I take.
When I lie down You are acquainted with all of my ways.
Every word You know before I even speak them.
You surround me in front and behind
Your hand is upon me at all times
This knowledge is too wonderful for me.
I cannot reach it for Your ways are higher than mine.
There is nowhere to hide from Your Spirit
Nor am I able to flee from Your presence.
If I were to rise up to heaven You are there
Or if I make my bed in hell You are there
If I take the wings in the morning and
dwell in the deepest parts of the sea,
Even there Your hand leads me,
And Your right hand holds me.
If I say darkness shall fall on me
The night shall be light all around me
The darkness cannot hide from You
for the night shines as the day.
Darkness and light are the same to You.You have created all of my delicate, inner parts.
You knitted me together in my mother’s womb.
I will praise you for I am uniquely and wonderfully made.
Marvellous are Your works, my soul is aware of it all.
The fabric of my substance was not hidden from You, when
I was secretly and skillfully created in the lowest depths of the earth.
Your eyes saw me yet unformed and before I came to be,
all the days ordained for me were written in Your book.
Your many thoughts of me are precious and cannot be measured, for they are more than the many grains of sand.
When I awaken I am still with You
